Continental Heavy Civil Corp, the contractor for the Beach Renourishment Project, and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has scheduled a beach tilling for Friday, February 21, 2020.  The tilling will occur between the 88th Street and 92nd Street area of the public beach.

Tilling is set to resume early on Saturday, February 22, and on Monday, February 24 in the 96th Street area of the beach, heading south.

The safety of resident and visiting beachgoers is of utmost priority.  Please be aware and abide by signage posted around the public beach as well as direction provided by safety personnel on site.

Project Overview

In order to address critical beach erosion in Surfside, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, in coordination with Miami-Dade County and the Town of Surfside, is placing approximately 330,000 cubic yards of beach quality sand, hauled by trucks from an upland mine, to renourish the public beach in Surfside. The construction is being carried out by Continental Heavy Civil Corp of Miami, Florida, which was awarded the $17.9 million contract by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Jacksonville District.  The renourishment project officially began on Monday, August 19, 2019.

Please note that some of the street-end signs with mosaic artwork designed by art students at Ruth K. Broad K-8 Center which were recently installed in Surfside, have temporarily been removed for safekeeping during the project's entirety. They will be re-installed once the project has been completed.
