Dispose of “Flushable” Wipes in the Garbage, Not the Toilet

10

Think Before You Flush!

The Town of Surfside’s Public Works Department urges residents to dispose of flushable wipes in the garbage and not the toilet. These wipes are typically made with synthetic materials, plastics or polyesters that do not break down. And as wipes meet cooking fat in the sewage system, they create a huge mass of solid waste that ends up clogging our sewers or even worse, damaging the lift station pumps by wrapping around the propellers. This causes millions of dollars in damage and poses hazardous risks to workers.

So the next time you go to the bathroom, remember that WIPES CLOG PIPES. Be sure to only flush human waste and toilet paper! Thank you for your cooperation.
