Sept. 14, 2023

On Friday, Sept. 15, essential construction work will be conducted to install a pole base, involving drilling and pouring. The construction activities are scheduled to transpire within the permissible time frame, commencing at 8 a.m. and concluding at 6 p.m. on that day. However, it is imperative to note that the segment of 96th Street and Bay Drive will experience a temporary road closure throughout these hours due to safety considerations.

In order to ensure the orderly flow of traffic and guarantee the safety of all involved, the Town has coordinated the presence of an off-duty police officer who will be on-site to oversee traffic management. The Town apologizes for any inconvenience that may arise as a result of this road closure and appreciates your understanding and patience as we execute this critical phase of the 96th Street Park project.

Project Update

The construction crew working on the 96th Street Park Project has been granted permission to extend their working hours. Today and next Tuesday, September 5, 2023, the construction crew will be working until 10 p.m. While they may not work until the full duration, they have been granted an extension to ensure that they have ample time to complete the necessary tasks.

Weekend and Holiday Schedule:
The Town would like to reassure you that the construction crew will not be working during the upcoming weekend. Additionally, in observance of the Labor Day holiday, there will be no construction activities on Monday, September 4, 2023.

Traffic Management:
For the safety and convenience of the community, the construction team has taken proactive measures to manage the local traffic on 96th Street. On Tuesday, September 5, 2023, a trained off-duty officer will be present to assist with traffic management. This arrangement has been made due to the deployment of a crane on the street for specific construction tasks.

The Town appreciates your patience and understanding as we work towards enhancing the 96th Street Park. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding as we work to bring positive changes to our community. The Town looks forward to the successful completion of the 96th Street Park Project.

Town of Surfside 96th Street Park Construction Update

The eagerly anticipated 96th Street Park moves one step closer to becoming a reality. The project has reached a significant milestone as the foundation and stem walls have been successfully laid, setting the stage for vertical construction to commence.

The design for the 96th Street Park has been carefully crafted with the needs and desires of the residents in mind. The visionary layout includes a two-story recreational building, a playground, a basketball court, a multi-purpose field, and a permanent dock, ensuring that the park caters to a diverse range of interests and activities. This impressive array of amenities will provide a safe and accessible gateway to the bay for all residents to enjoy.

Regular updates will be provided to keep the community informed about the park's development. The unveiling of the 96th Street Park is set for early 2024.

Dec.18, 2022

Spanning the course of several Town Commissions, the construction of a new 96th Street Park has been many years in the making.

The approved design for this marquee community facility which hosts some of Surfside's most popular programs and special events includes a two-story recreational building playground, a basketball court, a multi-purpose field, as well as a permanent dock to allow residents a safe way to access the bay.

A groundbreaking ceremony was held on Sunday, Dec.18 at the Annual Winter Wonderland event to mark the imminent construction led by Mayor Shlomo Danzinger. Also in attendance were Vice Mayor Jeffrey Rose, Commissioner Marianne Meischeid, Commissioner Fred Landsman, Commissioner Nelly Velasquez, as well as Town staff.

CONSTRUCTION-RELATED STREET CLOSURES, TRAFFIC CHANGES

Temporary street closures began Friday, Jan. 20 and impact Bay Drive from 96th Street to 95th Street. Access is restricted and limited to residents who live along that block.

Please note the 96th Street and Bay Drive exit is closed.

These temporary accommodations are being made to support construction operations while alleviating traffic congestion for Town residents. These activities will be ongoing during the 2023 calendar year and the Town will ensure appropriate signage is integrated to help direct the altered traffic modifications during this time period. All measures taken will be monitored for effectiveness.

Monitor this page over the coming weeks for updates and photos on the construction process.
