Pride Flag Raising Ceremony

The Town of Surfside will be holding a flag-raising ceremony on Friday, June 2, 2023 at 10 a.m. at the Surfside Community Center in honor of Pride Month. Residents and the public are invited to join Elected Officials and the Town Administration at the event.

Last year, the Town Commission voted to designate June as Pride Month and have the Pride flag raised.

The Town's ceremony is set to feature remarks from Town Elected Officials and will be held on the flag poles of the Surfside Community Center at 9301 Collins Avenue.

"Pride Month is all about acceptance and inclusion," said Town Manager Hector Gomez. "This symbol of solidarity for the community demonstrates what a welcoming and diverse place Surfside really is," he added. 2023 will be the second year the Pride flag will be flown in Surfside.

Pride Month, observed in June due to the anniversary of the Stonewall uprising which took place June 1969 in New York City, was first declared federally in 1999 by President Bill Clinton.
