Surfside Police Department Leadership Update

Chief of Police Edward “Wayne” Holbrook has resigned from the Town of Surfside as of today, Friday, Jan. 10, 2025. Chief Holbrook served the Town of Surfside with integrity and passion. We were all sorry to see him go. However, it was not a surprise given the significant challenges within the Town’s Police Department.

Former Chief of Police Enrique “Henry” Doce has been reinstated to the position of Chief of Police, effective immediately. On Dec. 11, 2024, Doce, who has a deep love for this Town and our community, decided on his own that he had become a distraction to the Town related to a hiring decision and felt it to be in the best interest of the Town to resign. Doce concluded on his own that the hiring decision was not in keeping with the Town’s standards. This was not a shared opinion with many of those close to and who had worked with the Chief.

In light of Holbrook’s resignation, it became very apparent that reaching out to Chief Doce was the right call to try and change his mind about his resignation. Following a brief conversation, Doce, given his love for the community, elected to return to his former position as Chief of Police to continue rebuilding our Police Department.
