The Code Compliance Division’s mission is to fairly and consistently enforce the Town of Surfside Code of Ordinances. The Division strives to promote and protect the health, safety, welfare, and quality of life for residents and businesses of the Town of Surfside.
The Code Compliance Division is dedicated to educate and inform the community of Surfside, enforce applicable laws, and municipal ordinances, and assist affected parties to achieve compliance professionally and respectfully.
The Code Compliance Division responds to complaints and monitors residential areas, commercial districts, and the public beach for code violations. Common code violations include but are not limited to property maintenance standards, overgrown lots, unpermitted/illegal construction, sign regulations (on both public and private property), beach furniture operations, zoning, and marine turtle lighting regulations.
This Division works to enhance the quality of life in the Town of Surfside through diligent observation, education, and enforcement. Code collaborates with multiple other departments including Police, Public Works, and Building. The Code Compliance Division ensures that all complaints are individually tracked and investigated and takes appropriate actions outlined in Florida Statutes Chapter 162, including the issuance of courtesy notices, civil violation notices, and the scheduling of cases before the Town’s Special Magistrate.
