96TH STREET PARK CONSTRUCTION PROJECT
Spanning the course of several Town Commissions, the construction of a new 96th Street Park has been many years in the making.
The approved design for this marquee community facility which hosts some of Surfside's most popular programs and special events includes a two-story recreational building playground, a basketball court, a multi-purpose field, as well as a permanent dock to allow residents a safe way to access the bay.
A groundbreaking ceremony was held on Sunday, Dec.18 at the Annual Winter Wonderland event to mark the imminent construction led by Mayor Shlomo Danzinger. Also in attendance were Vice Mayor Jeffrey Rose, Commissioner Marianne Meischeid, Commissioner Fred Landsman, Commissioner Nelly Velasquez, as well as Town staff.
CONSTRUCTION-RELATED STREET CLOSURES, TRAFFIC CHANGES
Temporary street closures began Friday, Jan. 20 and impact Bay Drive from 96th Street to 95th Street. Access is restricted and limited to residents who live along that block.
Please note the 96th Street and Bay Drive exit is closed.
These temporary accommodations are being made to support construction operations while alleviating traffic congestion for Town residents. These activities will be ongoing during the 2023 calendar year and the Town will ensure appropriate signage is integrated to help direct the altered traffic modifications during this time period. All measures taken will be monitored for effectiveness.
Monitor this page over the coming weeks for updates and photos on the construction process.
