Surfside Youth is Heard

The Surfside Youth Council was created in order to find a collective voice for the youth of Surfside to be heard. Lucia Lecour and Ella Garcia were elected as chair and vice chair by the Youth Council. The Youth Council agreed on meeting the first Wednesday of every month, as our community benefits from hearing from the future of Surfside. The Youth Council gathers feedback as well as works to create new opportunities for the youth of Surfside to thrive.

Teens and kids, as well as parents, are welcome to attend the meetings in order to be represented on a topic of interest or concern. Surfside can become a safer and powerful entity for our children.

First Initiative the Council Pushed For: A Biophilic Surfside

On Tuesday, January 14th, the Youth Council attended the commission meeting to push for an initiative that may help our future be a bit greener. Surfside is currently a beautiful beach town with nice beaches and sunny parks. It is important that the community we see now grows as the youth progresses into adulthood. After many discussions, the council began to discuss what a biophilic Surfside could look like and how this initiative could progress. The Youth Council proposed the idea to the commission, and a resolution was passed approving the town’s participation in the Biophilic Cities Network. Now Surfside is on its way to incorporating eco-friendly and sustainable developments into our lovely town.
